By using MakeFamilyTree.org, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
2. The Service
MakeFamilyTree.org provides a free browser-based editor for creating, customizing, and exporting family tree charts. The editor does not require an account and currently stores family tree data in your browser's local storage.
The service currently supports image exports such as PNG, JPG, and transparent PNG. We do not currently provide cloud sync, collaboration, or account recovery.
3. Your Responsibilities
You agree to use the service only for lawful purposes and to avoid content that:
- violates another person's privacy, publicity, copyright, or other rights;
- contains illegal, harmful, abusive, or deceptive material;
- attempts to disrupt, damage, or misuse the site or related systems;
- misrepresents people, relationships, sources, or historical facts as verified.
4. Your Data and Backups
You are responsible for the family tree information and images you enter. Because the editor stores data locally in your browser, you are responsible for keeping your own backups by exporting images or otherwise preserving your information.
5. Intellectual Property
The site design, editor interface, text, graphics, and software are owned by MakeFamilyTree.org or its licensors. You may not copy, sell, or redistribute the service itself without permission. You keep responsibility for the content you create in the editor.
6. Advertising and Third Parties
The site may display advertising and may link to third-party websites. We are not responsible for third-party websites, advertisements, products, or services. Your use of third-party services is governed by their own terms and policies.
7. No Warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not guarantee that the editor will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every genealogy project. You should verify important family history information independently.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, MakeFamilyTree.org will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, lost profits, or inability to use the service.

We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
